KELLI JANSON OPEN ROADS
The idea behind my paintings for OPEN ROADS came to me as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. I felt shut in and isolated by the lockdowns and provincial border closures. Like most Nova Scotians, I felt burdened with fear, sadness and stress.
I love a good road trip. I began daydreaming of traveling to destinations in Nova Scotia that could bring me joy and calm. Some were familiar places, others were new-to-me.
The paintings in this show are the results of those daydreams of open roads along the Annapolis Valley, the South Shore, and Cape Breton Island.
In most of these paintings, I am alone on the road looking over the steering wheel with the luxury of the view ahead all to myself.
In’ Blomidon View” I imagined stopping to take in one of my favourite scenes.
Over these last two years, I have become very grateful for many things – family, friends and health. I am also grateful to live in such a wonderful spot on this earth, in a province filled with unrelenting beauty.
I hope my paintings invoke in you a sense of lightness and optimism as we travel together towards joy and calm.
