TALL SHIPS DIGBY AUGUST 15-16
This August 15th and 16th, Tall Ships are coming to Digby! Join us in an event celebrating our local talent and treasures. Celebrate the Rhythms of the Sea through live (local) music from morning to evening at three different stages throughout town, follow the artisan trail and watch our local artisans at work, learn about our local innovators, experience our stories, or try some of our local delicacies.

Tuesday August 15th
10 am – 22.00 pm: Live music throughout town at three different stages. See here for full schedule (including downloadable PDF option)
10 am and 2pm: Take a free Stones, Steeples and Ships walking tour through town with Gael Tours. Meet next to the Digby Visitor Information Centre at 9.45 am or 1.45 pm. Admiral Digby will welcome you.
10 am to 8 pm: Follow the Artisan Trail. Watch jewelry being created, paintings, batik art, rughookers doing their hooking, quilts, woodwork, and more! For an overview of artisans, download the Tall Ships Artisan Trail (PDF) here.
10 am to 8 pm: Tracie Dugas, chainsaw artist, will be busy creating her sculptures right downtown. Watch chainsaw art being created on site!
10 am to 8 pm: Visit the Culinary Pavilion. Local wine and spirit tastings, scallops, Syrian foods and Digby paleo.
10 am to 12 pm and 3 pm to 7 pm: ‘Digby Fermented Foods’, presented by Ordinary Family Food & Life Ltd. associated with Wild Rose Farm.
An educational opportunity of healthy eating featuring fermented foods. Learn how ‘healthy eating’ works and where to start in Digby. Demos and tasters.
12 noon to 2 pm: Founders Picnic at the Admiral Digby Museum. Old fashioned fun games. Reg Hazelton, longtime fishermen, will be on site storytelling.
11 am to 5 pm: the Pirates of Halifax will be roaming the streets of Digby. Better keep an eye out!
12 pm – 12.30 pm, 1.15 pm – 1.45 pm and 2.30 pm – 3 pm: Brad Hewey, Scallops 101
12 pm to 2 pm (or as long as supplies last): Scallop Tasting, try a fresh Digby scallop prepared on site!
At the centre stage – marina parking area, hosted by the Villages of Mountain Gap Resort
1 pm – 3 pm: “Port of Call” Book Signing. Allan Billard will be signing copies of his new book “Port of Call” at the Whales ‘n Sails Giftshop at 25 Water Street.
4 pm – 8 pm: FREE visitation on-board tall ships. Please note that backpacks will have to be handed in at security for safekeeping. Please be aware that photo ID may be required for anyone 16 or over.
5 pm – 6 pm: Cold Plate Dinner at the Grace United Church, 11 Prince William Street.
8.20 pm: Feature Concert – Dave Gunning and Allie Bennett! (FREE)

1.30pm-2.30pm: Shipwreck Hunting 101 – The Tools and Technology
(Location: Isaiah W. Wilson Memorial Library – 84 Warwick Street)
Join professional diver Terry Dwyer for an informative and fascinating presentation about the two-year search for the stern section of the treasure ship L’Auguste, wrecked in 1761 off Dingwall Harbour in Cape Breton. First discovered in 1977 and reworked several times by several different companies over the past 30 years, the shipwreck remains the second largest treasure ship ever discovered in Canadian waters, yielding over well over 12,000 silver Spanish pillar dollar and hundreds of gold coins to date. Go behind the scenes of an actual real-life treasure hunt and learn about the business and politics of what really goes on and happened over the course of this project.
