The official opening of the Moon Mist All Ability Accessible Trail is planned for 3:30 pm at Upper Clements Trails on Saturday June 22, 2024 , 2958 Highway #1, Upper Clements, NS. Cake and refreshments will be served.
The Municipality has been working with our Annapolis Basin Outdoor Adventures Society ( ABOA) partners to create a destination trail system on county owned land . The landscape and unique geography of the property combined with steep inclines, interesting mix of forests, erratics ( large glacial rocks) and the Ryerson Brook, Ryerson Ravine has made this a popular trail system.
On Saturday we are opening a flat even graded pathway that is 5 feet wide and built to accessible standards that will be a 550-metre looped pathway that takes you by the trail kiosk, through a wooded area to a lookoff where participants can view the Ryerson Brook and Ravine. We have included picnic areas and rest stops along the way. The pathway has wooden sides along the perimeter to make it easy for folks that are seeing impaired and allows for easier navigation.
The trail system will now include a new accessible trail which gives opportunities for residents and guests to enjoy Upper Clements Trails regardless of their fitness level and abilities.
Our community trail building partner, Annapolis Basin Outdoor Adventures Society ( ABOA) have been working to create additional trails at Upper Clements since opening last June 2023 with names such as A Wrinkle in Time, East Ravine, Mellow Meadow , Hunker Down, Beaver Tale to name only a few.
We will also be celebrating the opening of the Potter Mill Trail which is a single track 250 metre trail that leads folks to a view of the old Potter Mill site. Tours will be available after the Moon Mist opening.
There will be a funding announcement at the trail site with MLA Jill Balser who has been supportive of trail expansion at Upper Clements.
Hope to see you on Saturday. Lots going on throughout the day in celebration and we thank our community partners, Annapolis Basin Outdoor Adventures Society who are working with us in creating trail building opportunities and for leading events throughout the day with us.
