GRACE BUTLAND’S BIO
Grace Butland has worked with textiles since the age of nine, when she chose sewing as a 4-H Club project. Over the years, her interests expanded to traditional quilting and wearable art, then to art quilting.
Her current work is focused on eco-dyeing and printing, using purchased sustainably harvested plant dyes along with plant materials collected on her daily walks. Her work is influenced by the natural world around her.
Grace lives in Annapolis Royal.
DIANE CLAPP’S BIO
I love threads and cloth, thick, thin, bumpy, or smooth which I can use in my dyeing. My
favourite place to be is in my outside studio collecting whatever is in the garden or field
and discovering what happens if I put it in the dye pot with my threads or cloth.
The journey started with my Aunt Helen who would take me under her wing when I was a young girl and teach me to sew in her attic and share with me her knowledge of what was in her garden. She made me excited about the possibilities that could result from our time together.
I carry on with her inspiration, weaving cloth, dyeing the threads and cloth, and
am now on a new adventure learning to spin the threads I use.
Nature is my inspiration and with my husband and family we spend hours and days together exploring the wilderness from our camp at Lake Joli.
All of Diane’s work is hung on beaver sticks collected from 1 of 8 houses on Lake Joli.
Over the years she has collected way more than she could ever use so included in the
show is a basket of beaver sticks that are free for the taking!
